Mintz & Mintz: Junction
AT THE JUNCTION OF STRUCTURE AND IMAGINATION
Writings by Gwendolyn Mintz
Art by Ashley Mintz
Our book consists of a poem that gives an overview of some of the poems in Shel Silverstein's book, "Where the Sidewalk Ends," and art that reflects the poem, highlighting funny and interesting characters in Silverstein's work. Certain poems were highlighted due to their humor and irony and also, because of the humorous way that they could be portrayed through art.
This book was banned in some libraries because it apparently promotes disrespect towards parents, truth and authority. It was deemed as inappropriate for children because it might cause rebellion and irresponsibility. However, artists know that imagination is what makes the world go 'round and it is what brings about creativity.
We artists grew up to be imaginative adults and we're doing just fine. Right?
