Cardinal Shift
Cardinal Shift - DEC, JAN, FEB, MARCH '20-'21
My red heart is so cooped up it won’t stop singing in my chest. It’s found a twin in the cardinals of my winter backyard, and there’s no controlling my phantom shifts to avian form as straight out the window I go into the sky. With these works I seek to match this karmic churn with the gesture, fleet form and hilarious bluster of the siren redbird. This exhibition will comprise a large suite of brightly colored bird and animal paintings on paper in watercolor and ink. The colorful storylines in these paintings fly and dip into dizzying dances and sideways through darker capers alongside an alternating cast of other animals including my human self. The viewer may no doubt recognize allegorical resemblances in some of these rustling tableaux, while others simply celebrate the frenetic tessellation of the birds across the winter sky.
