Drawing Essays'17-'22 > Rocky Glade Farm

Rocky Glade, Dec-Jan 2017/18
I had on my list of possible projects an unfleshed idea to confront and capture the deep freeze of winter. This place is so HOT except for then freezing hiccup of January. I wanted to capture the period when nature just grimaces and bares it for a moment until Spring bursts through. I imagined painting animals staring at me in the cold and me freezing, staring back. Philip Krajek of Rolf and Daughters gave me the idea of drawing at a farm. He gets much of his produce from a family farm in Eagleville and he introduced me to Jim and Julie Vaughn, their 4 boys Dylem, Caleb, Justin and Jacob and their magical Rocky Glade Farm. I drew there on either side of the New Year. I did freeze a few times(look for the ice crystal shapes in the drying ink). My sincerest thanks to the Vaughn family for welcoming me with such friendship and good will.
